About Sunflowers

 

Sunflowers group aims to promote Myanmar art market and quality textile products. Originally Sunflower Art Gallery and Art Classes has run as a family business since 1994. It has been led by artists Maung Maung Thein and  Chaw Ei Thein, and textile artist Phyu Ei Thein. Now we have extended as a social enterprise group in 2013.

 

Sunflower - Art Gallery and Art Classes

We collect paintings of Burmese artists. We have collection of art works by master artists such as U Ba Nyan, U Ngwe Gaing, U Maung Maung Mya, U Ohn Lwin, U San Win, U M. Tin Aye, U Nyan Shane, U Kyi, U Kyaw Hlaing etc. We also curate group and solo shows for artists.

We run specialized children art classes for ages 6 to 14 and they have to do project based creative activities. We have individual art classes for professional artist, engineer, architect, faction designer and medical student. Arrange Sunday outdoor painting activities for adult.

 

From 1997 – 2006, we arranged 4 children art exhibitions in Yangon and 1 children exchange art exhibition in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. In 1999, we organized an art exhibition of metal health patients from Yangon Psychiatric Hospital. It was collaboration work for the Psychiatric Hospital.

 

Sunflowers - Organic Dye Textile Production

Textile manufacturing is led by Phyu Ei Thein since 2004. We collaborate with local hand-loom weavers and weaving schools to maintain quality and fair trade. We create custom-made design of lotus, silk, cotton and Myanmar Cheik.

We collect products from Amarapura, TaungGyi, Kyauk Me, Mon Ywa, ShweTaung, Kyee The, Inn Ma, Myit Kyi Na, Inlay, Nyaung Shwe and Paungde to sell in Myanmar, Japan and abroad.

 

Sunflowers group presented the “Made in Myanmar” Textile & Crafts Exhibitions in Yangon in 2013, 2014 and 2016. We have participated in Myanmar Festival in Japan every year. We have established Sunflowers Organic Dye Weaving Studio, Nyaung Shwe, in January 2015 and Sunflowers Art, Organic Dye Textile & Crafts Shop, Yangon, in April 2015. Now we are working together with 15 professional weavers, 3 production staffs and 3 office staffs.
